Consequences of incorrect invoicing
We all make mistakes, but when it comes to invoices, it's important that everything is correct. A faulty invoice can result in a fine of up to 5,278 euros per error or missing information. This is a very high penalty that you want to avoid. In addition to the fine, an error in the invoice is also inconvenient for your customer. They may not be able to reclaim the VAT charged if the invoice does not meet all the requirements. Your customer may request a new invoice and won’t pay you until it’s correct. This is inconvenient for you as it takes extra time and delays your payment. Therefore, always check that your invoices meet all the requirements and do not contain errors.
To prevent missing information on your invoice, see this article on standard invoice requirements. If you accidentally sent an invoice with the wrong amount or information, read this article on how to correct an error on an invoice.
